The wonderful thing about God is that we can actually get to know Him, and be close to Him.
Many people have the fear that God is so far away from us, so distant that He could never be close, and we could never attain to His perfection and elevation, so we cannot expect to become familiar with Him.
This is based on the notion that God is always aloof or austere, and that He has made Himself untouchable simply by His level of divinity, but that is simply religiousity.
The accessibility of God
The truth is that He has made Himself accessible to us, and He wants to have an intimate relationship with His creation.
It is not our holiness or righteousness that gives us access to Him. It is the righteousness of Jesus. It is the holiness of Jesus. Faith in Jesus brings us to this place of connection.
God is love and those that come to Him must believe this and accept that He is a rewarder of those who will diligently seek Him (Heb.11:6). He wants us to come to Him. He is waiting for us.
He sent His Son Jesus to make the way clear for us all to draw near to Him. Yes, that’s right. We can come close to God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to demonstrate the love that God has for His people.
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
John 1:18
When Jesus walked the earth He came to show us the very nature and character of God.
What did Jesus do that gave us a glimpse of God’s care towards us? He healed the sick, He set the oppressed free, and He made the way clear for those who believe to receive eternal life through faith in Him.
It is not God who is putting sickness on people. It is not God who is oppressing people. Those things come from sin and the works of evil.
The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all— that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.
Acts 10:36-39
Yes, so Jesus went about doing good. He went about healing all who were oppressed. Who was the oppressor? The devil, who is Jesus’ adversary, the opposer of believers and all who are associated with Jesus.
Jesus demonstrated that God is good. He showed us that God is the Healer. He let us see that God sets people free from oppression.
And we can know this God through faith in Jesus. We can draw near to Him knowing that He will respond and draw near to us.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
John 17:3
When we come close to God through faith in Jesus, we will be empowered to resist the devil and resist the temptation to sin. We know God and come close to Him, forever.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
James 4:7
You can know God.
