Of course, we can’t go by feelings alone, and He has told us He will never leave us nor forsake us (Heb.13:5), so He is always as near as our heart and lips (Rom.10:8), that is, what we believe and what we say that corresponds with our faith.
He was there even before we knew Him, when we were yet sinners (Eph.2:4-5), so why would He be away from us when we have been saved? Well, He isn’t. He’s ever-present in our lives once we come to Him.
So He is not the problem when we feel disconnected. The only thing that truly separates us from God is sin, which is falling short of His high standard of love for Him and for our neighbour.
The answer to this problem is repentance, which is turning back to Him. We acknowledge that we have broken the love covenant we have with God and admit our failure, determining to put everything right, not only with God, but with anyone we may have wronged, deliberately or inadvertently.
Always be right with God.
The key to everything, though, is to remember who we are in Christ. Those of us who have receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour have been brought into the family of God. He has told us that when we stay in His Word He comes and makes His home with us and remains where we are through His Spirit and by His Word.
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:16-18
He dwells with us–always. It should not be a difficult thing, then, to remember God in the midst of trials and even when coming to terms with our own shortcomings. He is right here with us now. We can call on Him anytime, and He will answer. We come closer to God, to where He is already waiting for us.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
James 4:7-8
Whatever we may be going through today, there is a place we can go in our hearts and with our lips. We can begin to speak to God and forget about our woes and cares by remembering Him and coming back into the secret place with Him.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Psalm 91:1-2
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
Amen! We come into the solid rock dwelling of God, where nothing can touch us, and all is well. Always remember that He is our refuge and our fortress.
