Many people on earth are not connected to God the way they should be. They are adrift, separated, spiritually dead and in eternal jeopardy.
OK, that doesn’t sound like good news, but thankfully, there is a way for this to be rectified. However, we need to act now whilst we are still physically active in this earth, without delay, as there will be a time when the moment for salvation and reconnection is gone.
Spirit, soul and body
We were made to be spirit beings as well physical and emotional beings. Not spirits as in ghostly apparitions, but in the sense that we have a spiritual connection to God, and our inner person comes alive to Him. The problem is that we died spiritually when we sinned.
Sin is falling short of God’s intention for our lives, which begins with loving Him wholeheartedly, and loving other people the way in which we would prefer them to love us.
If we love we will not seek to harm, offend or deceive others in any way. We will not steal, we will not kill, we will not covet. We will prefer others in all things and seek their good.
Most people have no idea how eternally destructive sin is. There are even those who consider sin to be a fun thing that is societally acceptable and even normal, whereas being a non-sinner is boring and dull.
Some even think that hell would be the preferable place to go when they die because all their mates will be there and they will have one long and exciting party. It’s just an excuse to continue rebelling against righteousness or making a decision to cease from being aligned with perversion.
The Bible calls them the children of disobedience. But hell will be no picnic. It is a place of eternal destruction, agony and despair.
Repairing the void
Way back in the beginning humankind lost their spiritual connection with God through sin. It is a wide gap of eternal separation, an everlasting void of consequence, what Jesus called ‘outer darkness’ (Mat.8:12).
We should always be aware that sin separates us from God. It also causes the death of our spirit, which ends our direct relationship with Him.
We will go on for a certain amount of time as natural, physical, sensual beings, but our spirit will be dead. The only way back to God is through a new birth, a spiritual reconstruction and reconnection, wherein our spirit is regenerated and comes alive to Him again. This is called being born again.
God is a Spirit (John 4:24). He relates to us through our spirit, but if our spirit is not alive there is no ongoing communication, no communion. Our life is spiritually empty.
God sent Jesus to rectify this situation. He gave His life for us to deal with the sin problem and carry the price of sin on our behalf, giving us the opportunity to be restored to fellowship with God through faith in Jesus–the new birth (John 3:3, 1Pet.1:3).
At this new birth our spirit comes alive (John 3:6). When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we are dramatically and instantly changed. He gives us a new heart and a new spirit (Ez.36:26).
Coming alive
We may not notice anything in a natural sense, but spiritually we have been made alive to Him, and we will know it within, in our innermost being which is now alive to Him.
Not only this but our sin is forgiven, removed, cast as far as the east is from the west (Ps.103:12). We are given a clean slate and the ability to resist sin and walk in righteousness. We are made brand new (2Cor.5:17).
For the sinner this seems like an onerous thing because they are yet locked in darkness and its system of rebellion against God, but, like the Apostle Paul when he was saved, the scales will drop off our eyes when we are made alive to God and we will understand why it is so important to live a spiritual life before God.
It’s just a matter of hearing the good news and receiving it as fact, as truth and as our new reality. That’s why God encourages us to come out from that sinful realm and enter into the kingdom of light (Col.1:13).
The only way is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His work on the cross where He took away the sin of the world and made the passage clear into a new and rewarding spiritual life with Him.
The thing is, it’s not wise to procrastinate. The day of salvation is now, and there isn’t a moment to lose. Your connection is waiting.
