The Word of God tells us that when we wait on the Lord we will eventually be refreshed, renewed, even, and come back to that place where we readily hear from God and are more easily led forward by Him.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
Isaiah 40:30-31
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Everyone fades from time to time, especially during the business of the day. Christians are not totally invincible. We live in these mortal bodies, even though we have eternal regenerated spirits. The outer man is still subject to weakness.
So we need renewing from time to time. We can’t simply go on and on without being refreshed. All of nature tells us that there are seasons, some for growth and some for preparation, some for laying dormant before regeneration.
So we wait on the Lord. We give our full attention to Him. We come before Him in reverence and submission, to honour Him and bring our worship to Him. We come in full surrender to His grace, mercy and peace. We allow His love to wash over us. We allow His presence to envelop us with His glory.
We wait. This means stopping for a while. Letting go of everything. Putting aside duties and chores, ambition and desires, necessities and needs. It doesn’t have to be forever. A few moments in our day. A separation for a defined time. Sometimes fasting and prayer to diminish the attention seeking of the flesh. We wait.
And in the waiting there is a refreshing. We are told that we will renew our strength, we will mount up with wings like eagles, we will run and not be very, we shall walk and not faint.
