The Word tells that we are bought with a price. We are no longer our own. We belong to God.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
It should be noted that this applies to everyone, whether saved or not, whether they believe it or not. The truth is that Jesus died once for all (Rom.6:10).
Of course, not all believe or accept this, and many even turn down the offer to their unwitting detriment. Nevertheless, He died for them if they would only receive Him.
The difference for believers is that they have accepted His offer and entered into a hugely beneficial agreement with God. He calls them the Temple of the Living God. A temple is a place were deity can reside.
We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Not a temple made with human hands or works. God chose believers to be His Temple.
All things become ours because we are His (1 Cor:3:21-22). Everything we are belongs to Him, but, through covenant, everything He entrusts to us is now ours, being partakers of the divine nature (2Pet.1:4), custodians of His inheritance, stewards of His manifold grace (1Pet.4:10). Truly, the lesser is blessed by the Better (Heb.7:7).
Becoming God’s possession has so many benefits. He is at once the Shepherd of our souls, the Father of lights, and the Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. He is the Vinedresser, tending to His Vine, Jesus, of whom we are the branches.
And we are His Temple, the residence of His grace, mercy and blessing. The Holy Spirit comes and lives with us and is in us. We are known to God. We are known by Him. Eternal life is to know God (John 17:3)
He chose us in Christ Jesus before the foundation of the world (Ephesians.1:4). He knew we would come to Him before the creation. He knew who would believe and be saved by Him. We were on His list. We were called. We were chosen.
He saw us in Him. This means He knew we would be in Christ long before we were even born.
In Him we have redemption through His blood (Eph.1:7). To redeem is to pay the purchase price and to retrieve lost goods.
Jesus’ blood brings us to the Father and we are welcomed into His household. It means our sins are forgiven, washed away, cast as far as the east is from the west (Ps.103:12).
In Him we have obtained an inheritance (Eph.1:11). We have a clear future and a hope. We were predetermined to be on the right side of righteousness in Christ. In Him we are the praise of His glory (Eph.1:12).
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:13
Yes, so the gospel came to us and we heard it, believed it, received it and confessed as or own, and we brought into this family of God.
We were sealed with the Spirit of promise. He is the guarantee of the purchased possession. We are His possession. he bought us with a price, which was the blood of Christ.
That, in a nutshell is who we are if we have accepted the free offer of eternal life through faith in Him. There’s more, so much more, but just these few things are such a blessing to those who believe.
