Faith is a commitment

Faith changes everything

We need to understand that faith is a commitment to God’s will. It’s an undertaking to adhere to God’s Word.

God’s will and His Word are one. He doesn’t say one thing and mean another. His will is completely trustworthy.

When we come to His Word and act on it by believing what it says we are stepping into His will.

As we enter God’s will for our lives we will see His promises in action in our very lives.

We should also understand God’s commitment to us when we take on His will for our lives. It is a strong agreement called a covenant, deeper even than a marriage contract, and it is eternal.

Jesus’ commitment to us began with His cross, where He gave His life for the world so that all could be saved.

God, we have said before, is not a man that He should lie (Num 23:19). He has spoken and it must come to pass. His Word as been sent into all the world and it will accomplish all that He has sent it to do (Isa 55:11).

Therefore, when we come across a Word of God that applies to our circumstances or situation we can have confidence that that Word will come to pass in our lives, as long as we also commit ourselves to that promise.

Choose life

We do have a choice in life, even when it comes to the will and Word of God. He gives His people conditions for stepping into His will.

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live…

Deuteronomy 30:19

The context is instruction for Israel, but by association, for all descendants of Abraham, that they and we should choose life. Eternal life, then, is a choice. It is offered by God and He allows us to say yes or no to His offer.

They were being offered the opportunity to enter into the Promised Land. We are offered the opportunity to choose life through salvation that comes by God’s grace through faith.

It is an opportunity to make a commitment to God’s will for our lives. He is not willing that any perish (2 Pe 3:9). He wants all to come to repentance–to a life of change. Repentance is a decision–our decision to turn from our own ways to God’s ways.

Confession of faith

Faith is also a confession. It agrees with God’s offer of salvation and receives it. Our words in confirmation of God’s Word to us becomes our confession of faith.

“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:8-10

This is not a confession of sin. It is a confession of the Word that has been preached that tells us that there is an offer on the table of eternal life from God when we repent by accepting Jesus as Lord and making our confession that Jesus is Lord of ur lives.

Then faith directs us to live the life we have just confessed. We put actions to our words. We act on faith. We live what we believe.

We study the Word of God to show ourselves approved to God, rightly dividing the Word of God (2Ti 2:15). In other words, learning day by day as a disciple of Christ through study and application of God’s Word.

Discipleship is a responsibility. It is laying everything else aside to follow Jesus. Faith is a commitment to truth and a life of learning under Jesus through the Word of God and by the leading of His Spirit.

Faith is dedication to God’s will.
