All people need the right road

Life beyond the mundane requires placing our feet on the right road to our ultimate journey into the arms of the Almighty

We all need to find the right path in life. If you read some philosophers, or even hear mystics’ songs, you could be forgiven for assuming that there are many roads to everlasting life, and that you can choose your own path. The truth is that there is one narrow road to eternity, and few find it.

1970s Rock band Led Zeppelin produced the best-selling song ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in which they shared that there were many roads to heaven. It sounds nice, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. There is only one way, and that is through the person called ‘the Door.’

Who is this person, and how can they be the way into heaven? He is known to us as the Lord Jesus Christ and He declared Himself to be the only way to God the Father. He also told us that the road to eternal life is narrow, and many miss it.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

The Father is God Himself. Jesus is the Word made flesh. He came into the earth to declare the Father. Being called the Father means that God expects a family of children. He wants to welcome us all into His family through the new birth. We can be born of God through faith in the Son.

Jesus is also called the Door. He is the only way into a relationship with the Father. Jesus is the Way.

Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." (John 10:7-9)

What Jesus means here is that He is the Good Shepherd. In the days of shepherds on the hills of old Israel, there would be a sheepfold, a high thicket fence, which kept flocks safe by night. In the sheepfold there would be one entrance or exit. The shepherd would lie across that entrance with his rod and staff, so that any intruder who wished to enter would have to go past him, and no sheep could leave without him knowing.

There is only one Door into eternity–through the Good Shepherd, Jesus. When we come to Him and acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour, as our Good Shepherd, He will allow us to enter the sheepfold, into safety and protection, with the guarantee of eternal life.

He is the Way.
